A healthy start for patients
Kevin Rudd this week has provided Lismore with much needed medical supports for cancer patients. The impact on the local community cannot be underestimated. Lives will be saved and some of the stress associated with this dreadful disease will be met.
The constant bagging by Tony Abbott on everything Rudd does is disingenuous while he offers no view on how to do it differently.
There have been mistakes made but when the economic crisis came there was no blueprint to fix the problem. Every country in the world was facing a crisis. Rudd decided on a stimulus package to save jobs and keep the economy bubbling along. Jobs in retail, housing and many more were sustained. Rudd protected our money in the bank by guaranteeing our accounts. Most of us at one time or another have had to borrow money to pay debts. We then have a plan, as Rudd does, to pay it back over time. Rudd proposed ideas for saving our planet. All of these initiatives and more have been criticised and knocked down by the Opposition.
I am not happy with all that Rudd has done – the Intervention for a start and now closing our doors to refugees fleeing persecution. But I acknowledge the good he has done and urge people to come out and give some positive feedback to Rudd’s policies. The insulation policy resulted in four tragedies, a shocking outcome and one where we should be looking at their employers’ OH&S policies. Where are the thousands of satisfied customers? Surely it is time to speak out. While Abbott offers no alternatives and only negatives there are many of us who have benefitted from Labor’s policies.
Congratulations to Janelle Saffin for her tireless efforts for our community and to Lismore Base, who can now offer a full range of services to many in our communities.
