A funny thing happened...
Sydney-based performance group Brown Council are doing a two-week residency in the region with Norpa, fine tuning their new production A Comedy that will premier at the Next Wave Festival in Melbourne in a couple of weeks.
But they are offering North Coast residents a sneak preview of the show before they leave.
A Comedy promises to lift the curtain on comedy to reveal the darker and more malicious side of humour and laughter. It begins like a late night variety show and escalates into the realm of violence, humiliation and impossible conquests. They describe the show as “a hard-core endurance spectacle” with dashes of David Letterman, a little bit of Benny Hill slapstick and a dash of Bill Hicks cynicism. Manifesting as cardboard-capped dunces, kings and showgirls, Brown Council promises to perform a spectacle of tricks and torture.
Prepare to laugh, then groan and finally realise how creepy you are for laughing at all. It’s on this Friday, May 7 from 5.30pm at the Star Court Theatre. And it’s free! You can’t get fairer than that.
