Big day out for kids

There will be a sea of young, smiling faces when local children’s charity Our Kids holds its fifth annual Our Kids Day Out at Ballina’s Missingham Bridge on Sunday, May 23.

The day is a special treat for children with chronic illnesses or disabilities who are undergoing treatment at local hospitals, and the public is invited to come along and support them.

“Our Kids Day Out is as much a celebration of life as a fund-raiser,” Our Kids fundraising coordinator Rebekka Batistta said. “It’s a chance for the children to forget their problems and have some fun. For both the kids and their families, illness or disability can make life tough, so a day of fun that is especially for them is a real tonic.”

The Our Kids charity is dedicated to raising funds for equipment for local hospitals, so the sick and disabled kids of the Northern Rivers can receive treatment close to home without travelling to a bigger city.

The Our Kids Day Out program begins at 9am with The Toy Story, followed by Simon Heart Magic’s Show, Reptile Awareness, NBN’s Big Dog, the Byron Bay Circus Act, the Ronald McDonald Magic Show, Rova McWolf, and the Dhinawan Dreaming display.

The Our Kids’ Bravery Award for 2010 will be presented at 10.25am and there will also be face painting and displays by Ballina Fire Brigade and the SES.

With support from the whole community including the nurses from the Lismore Base Hospital’s Paediatric Ward, the day is guaranteed to have something for everyone.
