Top Tradies Network to help tradies with career and work

LAWYERS, accountants and doctors are used to mingling regularly with their professional peers.

But now those more accustomed to calluses, King Gees and steel caps have their own networking group as well.

The Top Tradies Network has been launched to provide local tradesmen and women with industry information, tips and professional contacts to help improve their businesses and secure more local work.

"A lot of tradies are great at what they do - whether they are builders, electricians, plumbers - but some need a heads up with the business side," Top Tradies Network co-founder Cindy Steele said.

She explained the group aimed to help local tradies tender for work, give them an avenue to learn about upcoming projects, provide marketing advice, form industry contacts that could help them co-tender for projects, and help local tradies win contracts ahead of Brisbane-based tradesmen.

"We felt there was a need for local tradies to have more of a voice," Ms Steele said.

The group was launched with some 125 guests at the Sunshine Coast Brewery at Kunda Park yesterday.

Queensland rugby league legend Billy Moore was a special guest.

The plan is to host monthly networking catch-ups, information sessions and workshops.

Ms Steele noted that many tradesmen and women did not even have a simple website.

"Sometimes they need to think outside the box," she said.

The Top Tradies Network is supported by Sunshine Coast Council, TAFE, Westpac, Stockland and Hotondo Homes.
