Songwriter behind Eric Clapton and Johnny Cash dies age 74
THE man behind songs performed by Eric Clapton and Johnny Cash, JJ Cale, has died in a California hospital after a heart attack.
A Grammy-award winner, Cale, 74, had a hugely successful career as a songwriter for some of America's greatest performers.
Primarily an influence behind the scenes, Cale won the 2008 Grammy for The Road to Escondido, which he recorded with Clapton.
A statement on Cale's website said he was a lover of animals, encouraging fans to donate to their local animal shelter in his memory.
