Scene Briefs

A former banana picker from Far North Queensland, swamp rockin’ slide guitarist 8 Ball Aitken will rock the Unibar on Friday, May 28, from 4.30-7pm with his distinctive bluesy sound. Entry is free.

Soulful singer/pianist Sharny Russell and quirky singer/bassist Jack Thorncraft will be back at the Jazz-Bah in Ballina on Saturday, May 29, to perform a night of their favourite jazz tunes as well as some of Sharny’s originals. The swing will begin at 6pm.

The Gollan Hotel in Lismore is hosting live original music again (hooray!) every Thursday night. Kicking off the action next week (June 3) will be Birdbrain, along with Mick Daley solo and Big Storm Little Feather. Entry is free and the music starts at 8pm.

Invisible Friend has carved a reputation as one of the region’s most loved blues, funk and roots acts and have been hard at work in the studio completing a brand new album to be released in the not too distant future. Next Thursday, June 3, they break out of the studio and head for the stage at The Buddha Bar in Byron from 8pm.

Thorazoo return to the Federal Hotel in Alstonville on Friday night, May 28, with a new sound system and a bunch of new songs. Featuring Steely Hank on vocals and guitar and Nigel Harrington on piano, trumpet, mandolin and acoustic guitar, Thorazoo hail from the Thora Valley near Bellingen and play original dance music and a wide repertoire of covers to get you moving on the dance floor.
