Three police officers injured in explosion on Saturday Night

THREE Melbourne police officers injured in an explosion in a block of flats on Saturday night remained in hospital on Sunday.

The officers, including two critically injured female officers, were among a team of emergency services staff responding a man's threat of self harm.

A statement from Victoria Police on Sunday said as firefighters gained entry to a second-storey flat; a massive explosion injured the three police, two firefighters and the man inside the flat.

Investigations into the explosion are continuing, with the man inside the flat under police guard.
