PETER Ostenfeld flew over the Brooms Head fire in his ultralight plane yesterday about 9am and his daughter Sarah took some amazing photos.
“We actually came in at the Brooms Head Road near Townsend and the smoke was south of the Brooms Head Road,” he said.
At that time he said it was almost continuous fire all the way from Townsend to Sandon.
“There was just flames and smoke everywhere.”
He said helicopters were water-bombing the area as he flew above at 4000 feet, and he saw an explosion by the road that he presumed was a car.
