WITH a much faster engine under the hood, better operating system, more apps, and clever camera, the iPhone 5s is a whole new level of smart phone.
While the upgrade from the 4s to 5 left many Apple fans disappointed, the same can't be said of the 5s.
With its 64-bit architecture, fingerprint ID system and re-engineered 8MP camera offering slow motion video recording and 10 shots in a second burst photo mode, the 5s definitely has the wow factor.
For those who love taking photos and video with their phone, the difference is obvious from the outset.
The camera records beautiful HD video while access to apps like iMovie makes video editing a breeze.
Shoot in slow motion and you will record at 120 frames per second which can then be slowed down to a quarter of that, with stunning effects.
The phone features a larger sensor and larger aperture which captures a third more light with truer colours and less noise (something earlier models lacked).
To reduce blur further, the auto stabilisation system actually takes four photos, at shorter exposure, and then combines them to produce one image with the least amount of hand shake as possible.
The phone's much faster processor means you can take 10 photos a second in burst mode, meaning you are less likely to miss the moment.
The phone also features a sophisticated "true tone" dual flash system for improved white balance and more than 1000 colour temperatures.
Under the hood, the A7 chip features more than a billion transistors yet it is somehow smaller and sucks in less power.
The Touch ID system is certainly one of the things that your friends will also want to see in action.
Rather than having to enter your passcode throughout the day, you can simply set up one (or numerous) fingers as your ID.
You can add fingers of your partner or children if you want to give them access to your phone.
Your fingerprint can also approve purchases from iTunes, the App Store, and the iBooks Store, as well as in-app purchases so you don't have to enter your password. The touch system doesn't work the first time every time but it is certainly a lot easier than having to type in a passcode.
Apple, mindful of the extra competition from the likes of Samsung and co, has thrown more inclusions at its latest phone.
Popular apps like Garage Band, iPhoto and iMovie are now included along with Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and iBooks.
In comparison to other models out there, the iPhone 5s is one of the more expensive phones on the market, but it is certainly a big improvement on the 4s and arguably worth the dough.
