Laughing with Barmaids

Nancy (Jane Clifton) and Val (Carmelina Di Guglielmo) try out a little karaoke (as you do) in Barmaids, coming soon to Lismore.

Barmaids is the story of two mature co-workers, Nancy (Jane Clifton Prisoner, Mums the Word, Menopause the Musical) and Val (Carmelina Di Guglielmo Mums the Word, Emma Celebrazione) who work at The Arms Hotel in an Australian town. New management at the hotel puts the barmaids jobs in jeopardy as they see a new breed of topless, karaoke-singing barmaids moving in on their territory.

Written by Katherine Thomson, produced by HIT (the team that brought you Last of The Red Hot Lovers and Hotel Sorrento) Barmaids is a comedy that makes for an excellent girls night out. And the fellas too...

Barmaids will turn the Star Court Theatre in Lismore into The Arms Hotel on Thursday, November 16, at 8pm.

Tickets are $25 and available from the Lismore & District Womens Health Centre at 25 Uralba Street in Lismore or phone 6621 9800. (The $25 includes a glass of sparkling wine on arrival. And $5 from each ticket goes to the Centre.)

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
