Chrissy Butler is a Northern Rivers artist, doula and mother of two. So what is a doula, you ask? Well, a doula is a woman who assists another woman during labour and provides support to her, the infant, and the family after childbirth. So now you know.

Chrissy has written, illustrated and self-published a book for children about her familys experience of homebirth. My Brother Jimi Jazz is a story about the birth of a boy told from the viewpoint of his four-year-old sister Trinity.

Launched in Brisbane recently, My Brother Jimi Jazz is the first Australian childrens book embracing active natural homebirth, the use of water in labour, midwifery care, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, cloth nappies and siblings attending the birth.

The book is stocked locally at Natures Child in Byron and at The Little Booktree in Bangalow with a selection of the books whimsical artwork on show at Barebones Art Space in Bangalow.

Chrissy will be reading the childrens book at the Natural Birth Education and Research Centre at 273 Lindendale Road in Wollongbar this Sunday, November 5, from 11am, as part of the centres second birthday celebrations. (Phone 6629 5312 for more info.)
