A free dental check-up, an acupuncture session and a surf lesson for two.

These are just some of the items you can bid on at next weeks silent auction at the Great Northern Hotel a fundraiser for the Northern Rivers Conservatorium.

The event is on next Wednesday, October 25, with live music provided by students and teachers from the Con, including performances by Easy Tiger, Chrystian Pyle, Sal Yates and Bryson Mulholland, Hudibrastic Funk, Imogen Wolf, and Kazie Grays Chic Hop Dancers. While being entertained people can select the lots that interest them and mark on a bidding form what they want to pay. All bids go up on a whiteboard so people can keep an eye on items of interest. Meanwhile, everyone who has donated goods for the auction will automatically go into a draw for an Afghan rug worth $350, courtesy of The Rug Shop in Bangalow.

The night starts at 8pm. For more information phone 6621 2266.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
