Food for drought-stricken farmers

With most of NSW in the grip of a severe drought, Eltham resident Anne Thompson (pictured) is holding a Food for Farmers Drought Appeal to ease the burden on farmers come Christmas time.

Anne collects food for hampers and distributes them to struggling farmers out west at Christmas. She says she urgently needs support from the community, as the drought is far worse than in previous years.

Farmers are at the mercy of the elements and it must be so depressing to see your animals starving and even more depressing when you cant put food on your familys table, Anne said. The drought is dominating news headlines at the moment because its just so severe, but often people feel powerless to help. This is one way locals can make a real difference and we know from many letters of thanks that is means a lot to farmers to know we are thinking of them.

Anne is now seeking donations of non-perishable food items (packets, tins or jars). They can be dropped off at the following locations: Jontom Car Sales in Lismore, Eric Box Mitsubishi in Casino, Ballina Tile Centre in River Street, Lennox Hire & Garden Supplies, and Sticks N Stones Florist in Bangalow.

For more information phone Anne on 6629 1041 or 0412 910 523.
