Host an international student

Host families are being sought for international exchange students arriving in Australia in January next year.

Southern Cross Cultural Exchange has a new intake of high school students from Germany, Italy, Colombia, the USA, Canada and Brazil who are looking for Aussie families to live with for several months while they study in Australia. The student becomes part of the family and is expected to do household chores and participate in family life, but all study and living expenses are covered.

For more information or to put your name down as a host family, phone Mandy Galbraith on 4757 4822 or toll-free 1800 500 501.

Stories from Sudanese refugees

Refugee Week 2006 runs from October 22-29 and is being marked locally with Sudanese refugees sharing their stories on community radio.

The Richmond Tweed Community Settlement Services Scheme has organised the radio program, Stories from Sudan, in which Lismores newest arrivals talk about their experience coming from a barren refugee camp to a first-world country.

The programs will go to air on 2NCR (92.9FM) next Tuesday, October 24, at 10am and on Bay FM (99.9FM) on Thursday, October 26, from 11am. They will also be running at various other times during the week, so stayed tuned.
