Best pizza by a country mile

Fire in the Belly owners Julie Dickson and Rodney Scott after receiving the Best Pizza Restaurant award at the Restaurant and Catering Associations Awards for Excellence in Sydney last week.

Its official. Fire in the Belly has been named the Best Pizza Restaurant in regional NSW in the Restaurant and Catering Associations Awards for Excellence, confirming what Lismore pizza lovers have known since the business opened in 2004.

Established by Julie Dickson and Rodney Scott, who create a mouth-watering selection of gourmet wood-fired pizzas, the restaurant took off almost immediately, and is often booked out.

The secret to their success?

We continually ask ourselves how we can we make the restaurant experience even better. We have nights when the wheels get wobbly, but we look back on the night and ask how can we sure that up, fix this, see the funny side of that?, said Julie. Hospitality is a hard game, its a high pressure environment within which customers expect consistent excellence... it takes a great team, good systems and an openness to learning to make it all come together.

Julie made special mention of head chef Phillip Winters, who prepares equally mouth-watering a la cart mains, pastas and desserts.

Julie and Rod now have an agonising wait until October 30, when they find out if they have been named Australias best pizza restaurant in the national awards.
