While racing is the obvious reason for the Lismore

While racing is the obvious reason for the Lismore Cup, these days the men and women who take to the racetrack for Fashions on the Field seem to attract more interest than the horses.

While everyone in the crowd had their own favourite, the judges chose Annette Santin from Caniaba (above left) as winner of the Best Hat, while Sheree Barnsley from Modanville won the overall Best Dressed.

I wasnt actually going to enter, but my husband made me at the last minute, said Sheree. I was pretty stoked, and surprised, because Ive never won anything before. My husband had a few bets but didnt pick any winners he said wed won on the day anyway, just not on the races.Sheree won a swag of prizes including a night for two in a plush hotel and a host of clothing, jewellery and cosmetic vouchers.

She wore a bottle green dress and hat, while her bag and shoes were borrowed from her sister and her jewellery came courtesy of her mum.

I suppose I should give them a cut, she laughed.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
