A 19-year-old Channon man was killed on Saturday night after being hit by a van on Bangalow Road, south of Clunes. His name was Jack Chapman. Police say Mr Chapman was hit by a southbound Ford Econovan at around 11.15pm about three kilometres south of Clunes as he walked along the road towards Lismore. Mr Chapman was alone at the time and police have appealed for anyone who saw the man just before the accident to contact Lismore Police on 6623 1599. Police have interviewed the 55-year-old male driver but no charges have been laid. Investigations are continuing and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Police are seeking help from the public in relation to a home invasion and assault in McKenzie Street, Lismore, on Saturday night. A 40-year-old male suffered a head injury when one of two males who broke into his home around 9.30pm assaulted him before fleeing the scene. One of the offenders is described as tall and dark, wearing long pants, a light coloured shirt and a baseball hat while the other is described as tall, of Caucasian appearance, wearing a blue shirt and baseball cap. Motorists are being warned not to leave valuable property unattended in their motor vehicles after cash, a digital camera and jewellery was stolen from two cars in the Ballina area this week. A Holden Jackaroo and a black Ford Falcon in Burnett Street, Ballina, were broken into between 1am and 8am on Monday morning. Information to Ballina Police on 6681 8699.
