The in basket

Nimbin has a basket weaving festival. Yes, thats right. The Weave and Mend Festival.

And its happening this weekend (Friday to Sunday, September 29-October 1) at Nimbin Central School.

This is a community-based initiative focusing on weaving and mending the fabric of our society through the children.

The festival runs from 10am-3pm over the three days.

Children will get a hands-on introduction to the traditional craft of basketry and appreciate the resources (grasses and fibres) given to us by the Earth Mother. The festival highlights art as a way to mend the fabric of our community.

There will be music and song throughout the festival and artists will demonstrate their skills throughout the weekend. Therell also be workshops on Saturday and Sunday.
