Beautiful journeys

The owner of Armisteads Gallery in East Lismore, Rhonda Baker, is stepping out from behind the counter to present a new exhibition called Uncontrollable Beauty with friend and fellow artist Kristine Uebergang.

The exhibition is a meditation on what it means to be a human being and the various challenges we all face on our life journey. It explores many issues people are forced to contend with such as conforming to what society dictates is acceptable and how we liberate ourselves from those expectations to find our own identity.

The exhibition is about owning yourself for yourself and breaking free of what you have told you should be, said Rhonda. People are controlled by so many different forces, whether its society, relationships, environment or geography. Our artworks look at how we work through this, and it often takes a great leap of faith or guts to come out the other side. Its a bit like the old Confuscious saying the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Uncontrollable Beauty opens at Armisteads Gallery tonight (Thursday, September 28) at 6pm and everyone is welcome to meet the artists, share some nibblies and see the installation that accompanies the artworks.

The exhibition will remain on show until October 11. Youll find Armisteads Gallery at 43b Wyrallah Road.
