The song collector

Aroha will be the feature act at the Songwriters Collective in Lismore this Friday. Theyre taking this gig very seriously Rohen is wearing a tie.

This Friday, September 22, the Tatts Hotel in Lismore will be the venue for the monthly Songwriters Collective gig. The brainchild of Jamie Shaw, the idea is to give songwriters a place where they can try their original material on an audience. And where the audience can appreciate established and emerging songwriting talent. The evening is made up of 10 songwriters, each performing two songs. Thats followed by a feature act with a 40-minute set.

Eight of the songwriters are pre-booked and two spots are wild card entries that are drawn on the night. So you can bring your instrument, put your name down and maybe get to showcase to the world (or a bit of it anyway) that song you wrote which is, of course, sheer genius.

The featured act this week is Aroha. This relatively new North Coast band features the lush, breathy vocals of Rohen Davis, the saxophonic stylings of Adam Owens, the basic rumblings of Jamie Shaw and the backbeats of Geoff Mason. The sound is quirky, rhythmic and distinctively Arohas.

The gig starts at 8.30pm and costs $5/3 to get in.
