Jazz and the Washingmachine

George Washingmachine is a funny name but theres nothing funny about this mans extraordinary musical skills. Hell be performing in Lismore next Thursday.

The George Washingmachine Quintet will play the Fountain Room at Lismore City Hall next Thursday, September 28, at 7.30pm.

George, a very experienced and well travelled jazz muso, has a lush, smooth voice and can play fiddle like, well, as James Morrison once said of him, George plays better than me! (James is a trumpet player...)

George is the ultimate showman and when he fronts his quintet its all cool grooves, the unexpected and much excitement.

Based in Sydney, George has played with the best in Australia (and supported international acts like Sarah Vaughan, Al Jareau, Leo Kottke, Lenny Henry... the list goes on) and makes trips to music festivals all around the world. He has recently returned from Japan. And he played at the Bangalow Jazz Festival earlier this year.

The Fountain Room has a licensed bar. There are cheese platters available but you can also bring your own supper spread.

Tickets are $15 (and limited). For tickets call 6628 7988 or 6687 4997.

For more info phone Michael Bird on 6622 5912 during business hours.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
