Bexhill man and Trinity Catholic College teacher Bob Delaney will this week be cycling 100km to raise money for research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Bob was diagnosed with MND last year, an incurable disease that causes the degeneration of the nerves concerned with muscular contraction.
In order to raise money to find a cure for MND, Bob is looking for sponsorship for each kilometre he rides. For example, one cent per kilometre would be a donation of $1, 10 cents per kilometre would be $10 and so on.
Bob has lived and taught in the Northern Rivers for many years and is a wonderful bloke. For further details on how to sponsor his fundraising ride, contact him on 6628 4435.
Smoke alarms reminder
From May 1 this year it became compulsory for smoke alarms to be installed in all existing buildings people sleep in. However, it is important to know that if fire destroys your home, your insurance policy may have a get-out clause if smoke alarms werent fitted, werent working or were installed incorrectly.
Also, contracts on the sale of a home must now include a statement that the property meets the new smoke alarm regulations. Without it, the buyer can walk away from the sale within 14 days of exchange of contracts.
It is also now an offence to interfere with or remove a smoke alarm unless it is to repair, maintain or replace it.
