Rous-ing poetry

After a trip to Brisbane for the poetry festival there, David Hallett and other esteemed poets from this area have realised the high quality of performance poetry on the North Coast and the pretentiousness of some sections of the poetry world.

The poets will return to the Rous Hotel in Lismore next Wednesday, September 20, for the Live Poets. This talkfest of regional poets now stretching into its 15th year will feature a Poetry Slam, with a shower of golden coins for the winning poets. Itll be a good training run for next months Lismore Poetry Cup.

As ever the evening will also feature open and invited readings, with new poets always welcome. For more info phone David on 6688 6485.

Entry is $6/4.

Freebie: The Echo has a double pass to giveaway to some lucky reader. To go in the draw to win phone 6622 2888 between 10.15 & 10.30am next Monday, September 18, and tell us who was the famous American poet a) Walter Cronkite, b) Walt Whitman, or c) Walt Disney.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
