Youth plays

Maree Railton (left) and Rebecca Connor, both members of one of the Northern Rivers Conservatoriums after school drama groups, will perform this weekend at the Rochdale Theatre.

The Northern Rivers Conservatorium has two after-school drama groups Hut Youth Theatre and the Teenage Drama Company. These groups are presenting two plays at the Rochdale Theatre next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 22-24.

Hut Youth Theatre, for 11-14 year olds, is presenting Hans Christian Andersens The Snow Queen (Friday 7pm; Saturday 2pm) and the Teenage Drama Company, for 15-18 year olds, will present Blood Brothers by Willy Russell (Saturday 7pm; Sunday 7pm).

Both plays deal with confrontation, love and relationships, though one is adapted from a fairy story with magical characters and the other is a perceptive, thought-provoking tragedy (as befits the older teenagers producing it).

For more info phone the Conservatorium on 6621 2266.
