Chant remains as deputy mayor

Cr John Chant (pictured) was re-elected as Lismores deputy mayor for another 12 months at Tuesday nights Lismore City Council meeting.

Cr Jenny Dowell had planned to run for the position, but said when she realised she didnt have the numbers, decided not to nominate. Cr Dowell said she will definitely stand for deputy mayor next year as she hopes it will be a stepping stone to one day become Lismores mayor.

Cr John Chant said he was delighted to be re-elected for a fourth term.

Its an honour to be elected again Lismore has supported myself and my wife and my business for the last 34 years and its great to be able to give something back. Im very passionate about seeing Lismore go forward, Cr Chant said. Unlike other levels of government, when you work for a council youre there for the community 24 hours a day. If theres a problem to do with sewerage or roads or whatever, the ratepayers can always call and well try and help them out.
