Fashion stakes high at Ballina Cup

Ashleigh and Sarah Lyons at last years Ballina Cup, which returns next Thursday.

While hundreds of punters will be scanning form guides to get a hot tip for the Ballina Cup, its likely hundreds more will be scouring fashion stores for the perfect outfit.

The Ballina Cup is on next Thursday, September 14, with residents allowed a half day holiday so they can watch the days action both on and off the race track.

The fashions in the field are just as fierce as the horse racing, said Ballina Jockey Clubs secretary manager, Stephen Taylor. Its a really important day out for the ladies. A chance to dress up to the nines and maybe win a prize.

While they dont have nearly as much choice, blokes can also don their finest and compete for the title of best dressed man or best dressed couple with a partner.

The Ballina Cup has a full eight race program, with gates opening at 11am. Theres full TAB facilities and you dont need to worry about driving, as a free local bus service will operate after the days racing, dropping people at Lennox Head, Tamar Street, East Ballina Shopping Centre and West Ballina.
