Sexual assault at SCU

A 21-year-old exchange student was sexually assaulted at Southern Cross Universitys Lismore campus at around 11pm last Thursday.

The offender forced the student to the ground and sexually assaulted her, before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim returned to her Ross Street residence and was taken in a distressed state to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment. The offender was described as being of medium build with short, dark hair. He was wearing long pants and a white dress shirt at the time of the incident.

Police are warning local women to be aware of their personal safety and, where possible, not to go walking alone at night.

Southern Cross University will now review its security arrangements to determine if further measures can be implemented.

Anyone with information about the incident should immediately contact Lismore Police on 6623 1599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
