Workers have secured the Far North Coast Baseball minor premiership and established a psychological dominance over second placed Easts Redbirds with two wins in last weekends double header against the young guns.
Workers pitchers Troy Pruess and Josh Daley worked the Redbirds batting effectively with excellent support in the field, notably from Wayne Devlin and Martin Tucker.
Workers dominated the Friday night encounter, stringing together their hits to take out the match 12-5. However, the Saturday afternoon game was a much closer run affair with Workers managing a tight 5-4 win thanks to some early errors by the Redbirds defensive unit.
In the other double header, Norths clawed their way back into contention with two solid wins over Brothers, putting them just one point behind the Brethren on the table. The return of short stop and AA Australian player James Linger was the spark the As needed, but they must still knock off Redbirds this Saturday if they are to pip Marist for the last spot in the finals. Marist can ensure their finals berth with a win over Workers.
The games get underway at 2.45pm.
