Work to turn Carrington Street from an ageing laneway into a vibrant city centre could start within a month after Lismore City Council voted on Tuesday night to give the project the green light.
An extra $200,000 was allocated to the project, bringing the total cost to $1.3 million.
The upgrade will include the installation of rainforest trees, eye-catching sails on the Star Court Theatre, new lighting and pavement motifs. There is also money for a water feature, which is currently being designed.
The upgrade is the first stage in Lismore Councils laneways project, which will see the CBDs entire network of lanes repaired and beautified.
Council hopes work on Carrington Street will be completed by the end of November.
