If you love eating bananas but dont want to take a second mortgage on the house, the Lismore Farmers Market is one of the few places you can still buy a cheap bunch.
Yet despite selling beautiful fresh produce for a fair price, and being able to provide info about the source of the food and how its grown, the Lismore Farmers Market continually struggles to attract shoppers.
This Saturday, August 12, the Lismore Farmers Market is celebrating its third birthday at the Lismore Showgrounds with all the usual stalls plus entertainment, birthday cake for everyone, freebies throughout the morning, hot food and coffee.
Jeanie Middleton from Roboy Plantations, who sells her homemade macadamia products at the market, says in an area full of self-confessed greenies its about time people starting putting their money where their mouth is.
Instead of going to supermarkets people should be supporting farmers in their local area. The more people support us the stronger the local economy becomes, said Jeanie. The great thing is you can talk directly to the grower and find out if their produce is organic or what specific growing methods are used, so you know exactly what youre familys eating. Weve got plenty of parking and were here rain or shine we just need people to get off their backsides and support us local blokes. Those who dont are missing out.
The third birthday market runs from 8am till the produce runs out. For more information or to book a stall site phone Rob on 6629 3229.
