Lindsay Doust- Hook, Line & Sinker

Trade show

Last weekend on the Gold Coast the annual Fishing Tackle Trade Show showcased all the latest in fishing tackle from around the world. What is available and the quality of it is simply mind-boggling. Like all modern equipment in all areas of life there are so many new ideas and specialised items. Fishing reels these days are no longer general purpose, covering fishing in general, but are made for a specific purpose, such as bait casting reels and rods, spinning outfits for lures and plastics and gear for deep-sea jigging. Sure there are still hundreds of general purpose rods and reels, but for the angler who wishes to specialise, there is gear the likes of which were unknown even five years ago. At Suffolks we try and cater for the family fisher who wants to have a day out with the kids but also develop their specialised fishing skills, so we have some of the very latest rods, reels, lures, plastics, line and much more.

Coming up in our region is the Bass Classic, which is centred in Lismore on October 7 and 8. For a very small entry fee, all of which goes towards restocking native bass in the Richmond system, you can win prizes worth more than $4000. Follow this column for more information.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
