Dreaming art

The second ArtCamp International held at the sacred and beautiful environment of the Nimbin Rocks Pecan Camp was rich in cultural exchange and creativity.

Bundjalung elders and custodians formally opened the camp on Thursday to an audience of cultural students from the Gnibi College of Indigenous Australian Peoples, international travellers and local artists.

ArtCamps theme of sharing ginyelah (Bundjalung Wiabal for consciousness) created an atmosphere of respect, learning and creativity. Workshops and campfires continued over the next three days.

The next ArtCamp International is to be held in the Border Ranges National Park from November 1-4.

Bookings can be made through Perceptio in Nimbin (6689 1766), at Rvbyesque in Lismore (6622 4676) or Planet Corroboree in Byron Bay (6680 7884).

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
