This wooden wall piece Black Cockatoo and Leaf is one of the artworks in the exhibition Bits & Pieces by Shirley Miller currently showing at Armisteads Gallery in Lismore.

A painter who lives near Nimbin, Shirley Miller attributes the inspiration for this exhibition to a painting trip she took to the Finke River west of Alice Springs.

It was here in this most un-Nimbin environment that she started to collect feathers, leaves and well, bits and pieces. These found objects feature in her small wooden wall pieces.

She also has paintings done with gouache (which is an opaque watercolour) on handmade paper all of which reflect the new artistic directions her desert trip created.

You can check out the current fascinations of Shirley Miller at Armisteads Gallery until August 30.
