World Poets in Nimbin

This Saturday and Sunday, August 5-6, sees poets from all over Australia converge on the little town of Nimbin for the Nimbin Poetry World Cup. The place will be sizzling with simile and big-time rhymes all weekend as the cafs are filled with poets competing for big bucks and poetic glory and spectators vie for a taste of the alliterative action.

In the 1980s Thom the World Poet was just Thom the Poet he hadnt started his worldwide word exploits then. He would stand in the Bourke Street Mall in Melbourne and hand out hundreds of poetry broadsheets. He started and ran many poetry venues. He was a poet revolutionary.

Now Thom the World Poet is based in Austen, Texas, in the ol US of A where he (you guessed it) started and runs many poetry venues. But he will be in Nimbin this weekend for the poetry spectacular.

Also therell be another world travelling poet, Daevid Allen. Daevid now resides on the North Coast from where he takes his gift for words around the world. Daevid is also a great supporter of the power of poetry. For him the revolution (both personal and social) is in the words.

Watch out for these two wordsmiths at the Nimbin Poetry World Cup this weekend.

Thom will also perform at the Writers at The Rails gig at The Rails in Byron this Sunday, August 6, from 2.30pm.
