Making sense of Census time

NSW Census director Sue Phillips (front) visited Lismore last week to oversee Census collector Geoff Garlick hand out the first Census form to East Lismore resident Kerry Butler and her children Zara, Abby and Macy.

Sue reminded residents that the Census only happens every five years, and its vital that locals fill out their forms on Census night next Tuesday, August 8.

The Census helps to paint a picture of your community, said Sue. It provides information on many important topics like the age profile of your population, your heritage, your income, your education levels and the industries in which people are working. It is vital that everyone participates so that your community has an accurate count from which to plan the services that are required.

Collectors will be delivering forms right up until August 8 and will return to collect them between August 9 and 28. Busy people who might not be home when the Census collector calls have the option of completing their form online with eCensus. Go to www.abs.gov.au/census to find out more or call the Census Inquiry Line on 1300 362 883.
