Lindsay Doust- Hook, Line & Sinker
Ive reached the stage in life when one can look back on a good many years and recall the days when many of our activities were free from controversy. Sport was drug free, fishing was the right of everyone, we could go shooting the pests that endanger our wildlife and much more. Somehow those days are gone and recreational pursuits seem to have so many controls placed on them.
Fishing is one of those activities that is attracting more and more controversy whether it be marine parks, fishing classics, beach access or seemingly whatever issue arises. As I mentioned last week I am not able to comment scientifically on many of these issues apart from what I read, but I do feel that society is heading down the road of over regulation.
I guess this is an appeal to those of us who love the outdoors to ask ourselves if our habits are hindering or enhancing our sports. It will not become any easier in the future, with some calling for up to 70 per cent of all waterways to be closed to fishing and some even asking for it to be banned due to cruelty.
