Camping it up for a good cause
The Lismore Showgrounds will be humming this weekend as thousands flock to the annual 4WD Caravan, Camping & Marine Show a major fundraiser for the Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
Co-ordinator Howard Atkinson said with 170 exhibitors, the event was a huge drawcard for anyone interested in camping and outdoor living.
The largest range of caravans, camper trailers, campervans and motorhomes ever assembled in regional NSW will be on display as well as an extensive range of 4WD vehicles and accessories.
There will also be an undercover Marine and Fishing Expo with boats, marine accessories and the very popular Yamaha Fishing Tank the worlds largest mobile fishing aquarium where people can watch fishing demonstrations and see how fish react to different lures.
Wine buffs will love the Cellar Door Wine Fest, where you can taste and buy wines, liqueurs, and ports from 12 of the best boutique wineries from Stanthorpe and the Tablelands.
The show is a major injection for the local economy, said Howard. Most of the exhibitors are from out of the area and they stay for three days. And theyve all got to eat and pay for accommodation. And then youve got all the visitors who come from as far away as Armidale, Tenterfield and Grafton.
Mr Atkinson said the show was a must-attend event for the whole family.
Theres a man coming with the Reptile World Show, and hes bringing a whole lot of snakes with him. Theres free face-painting for kids, a puppet show and rides, said Howard. Its a nice atmosphere and theres lots of things to eat. You can relax and enjoy the whole thing.
Visitors have the chance to win a Billabong Camper Trailer through the major raffle and an extensive range of holiday and camping destinations will be showcased.
The event is now in its ninth year, raising more than $70,000 for the Rescue Helicopter annually.
The 4WD, Caravan, Camping & Marine Show runs from Friday to Sunday, July 14-16, from 9am-4pm each day. Theres free parking and entry is $8 for adults and $5 for pensioners, with kids under 14 free.
