Thirst for adventure helps those with MS

Lismores Fran Slattery and Byron Bays Marie McDonald (pictured) have had a stack of adventures during their 20-year friendship, but their latest could go down as the greatest one of all.

The two local nurses have embarked on an MS Challenge, a fundraising program between the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Intrepid Travel that involves raising money and being rewarded with a fantastic adventure in Asia.

Fundraisers so far have included a dinner in Byron Bay, a Bhutanese film night, a mango drive, and a trip to Brisbane to see Menopause the Musical. Marie said theyve all been great fun (particularly the trip to Brisbane with two busloads of menopausal women!) but they still need to raise $5000 to reach their target of $11,000.

If youd like to help them out, the next event is a film night featuring the Australian film Candy at Lismore cinema next Thursday, July 20. The film night starts at 6pm and includes drinks and nibblies for $15. If youd rather boogie to help the cause, a dance party is being held on Saturday, July 22, at Corndale Hall from 7.30pm. Therell be live entertainment, yummy food and prizes and games all for $20.

The money raised by Fran and Marie goes directly to the NSW MS Society but the women hope to instigate a local MS support group when they return from their adventure in northern India.

For tickets to either event or more info phone Fran on 6629 1556 or 0423 493 183, or Marie on 6680 7517 or 0434 552 283.
