Coraki postie a real champion

As treasurer of the Coraki Hockey Club, Norma Thomas (pictured) was doubly-delighted last week when she was chosen as an Australia Post Community Champion winning $1000 in the process for the sport she loves.

A thousand dollars! Thats a lot of raffles you dont have to run, she said. Im pretty proud to be selected. I believe there were 70 nominations and I was only one of 12 winners Australia-wide.

The award was developed to reward Australia Post staff who volunteer their time to charities or community groups.

The award was a wonderful birthday surprise for Norma, who turned 70 yesterday (Wednesday), and is well-known in Coraki not only as the towns postie but also as a Richmond Valley councillor and as a stalwart of the Coraki Hockey Club, where she works as treasurer, coach and team manager.
