Swans nail Hawks

SAFL with Roly Wintle

The Lismore Swans travelled to Murwillumbah and defeated a determined Hawks outfit 18.8.116 to 6.10.46 in round 10 of the SAFL.

There was nothing flash about the Swans tradesman-like victory, however, they were missing key players and it was pleasing to see the Hawks with a full playing roster.

Although the Swans didnt fire on all six cylinders their full-forward Adam Rhodes was inspirational, booting 11 goals, whilst Doug Tossmea Bone was dangerous in attack, kicking three majors. Again Howard Brothers Incorporated played strongly Simon Sleepy Howard punishing from centre half-back, Paul at ruck rover and Jimmy in the centre being the mainstay of the Swans performance.

The match marked the comeback of stalwart Roly Barrett whilst evergreen Frank Reid and Chris Helleyar enthralled the capacity crowd.

In the other match the Byron Bay Magpies swooped on the Ballina Bombers in a 11.8.74 to 9.4.58 victory at Schulz Oval in Bangalow. The Bombers soared away to a flyer, kicking five goals to Byrons one in the first quarter. However the Magpies rallied and staged a comeback of colossal proportions with Shem Aitken slotting five majors and John Porritt four to turn the tide.

Up there Cazaly!
