Rays king of the show

Long-serving Lismore Poultry Club member Ray Newton (pictured) wasnt content to simply have the clubs 105th show named in his honour he had to win a few awards too.

Some 1200 birds were presented for judging at the Ray Newton Testimonial Show, however, no-one could rival Rays own white pullet, which won Champion White Pekin, Champion Pullet and Reserve Champion Pekin of Show. He also won Champion Pekin Breeding Trio and it was smiles all round when Rays protege Steven Cox won Most Successful Pekin Exhibitor.

We had a testimonial dinner that night and around 70 people attended, said Steven. Many people spoke with praise of Ray, including Lismore mayor Merv King. It was a fitting tribute to a true gentleman.
