Northern Rivers timely showing

The Northern Rivers Cycling Clubs team of Tim Davis, Tim Harris, Damian Gooley, Ian Lake and Neale McLennan took out the Grafton Cycle Club Mauri Kautto Memorial 100 kilometre teams time trial in Grafton on Sunday.

The Northern Rivers team pulled well ahead of their nearest rivals in the open section, winning by five minutes.

The five-member team rode the 100km distance in an impressive time of just over two and a half hours, averaging 39kms per hour over the course of the race.

The riders were rewarded for their efforts with a $500 cash prize.

In all, 23 teams from NSW and Queensland contested the annual event, which started in Grafton and headed north to Whiporie along the Summerland Way before returning to Grafton.

The Northern Rivers Cycling Clubs next club race will be held at Rous, south of Alstonville, this Sunday, June 18. Sign-on is at Rous School from 6.30am with racing starting at 7am. Races will be held in five grades and club membership and licenses are available on the day.
