Surf showdown at Lennox

Renee Hyman will be contesting the Open Pro and the Under 21 years divisions at the 2006 Icon Australia All Girls Surf Showdown in the Ballina Shire this weekend.

This weekend will be a long weekend to remember with the All Girls Surfriders Club hosting Australias largest all womens surfing contest from Friday to Monday, June 10-12, in the Ballina Shire. The club is inviting the community to be part of the carnival atmosphere of the Icon Australia All Girls Surf Showdown and watch the action beachside.

Apart from getting the chance to see some of the best women surfers in the world ride local waves, the event includes a host of other activities such as Grombiz Skateboards learn-to-ride sessions and a casual slalom competition. Bring the kids along for face painting and the chance to win a variety of prizes from 10am-2pm daily.

On Saturday evening the club will be hosting an Icon Idol competition. The evening kicks off at 6.30pm at the Department of Sport and Recreation function room in Lennox Head. Entry is free for competitors and $7 for family and friends, with snacks included.

In the Showdown itself, the best two surfers from each heat continue through to the next level. Monday is finals day, where the best will battle it out for the Showdown title in each of the seven divisions.

The competition kicks off each morning at 7.30am at the most contestable surf break between Lennox beach and Ballina North Wall. The daily competition site will be advertised outside Lennox News and signage will be posted on the grass opposite the Lennox Point Hotel.
