Join in on largest garage sale

If you never hold a garage sale because booking the advertising and putting up signs just feels like too much trouble, then its worth taking advantage of Secondhand Saturday the North Coasts biggest garage sale.

People living in Ballina and Lismore are being invited to join in the fun on Saturday, June 24, and register their address to get free advertising in The Weekend Star for their garage sale.

Last year more than 400 households across the North Coast region participated in Secondhand Saturday and Linda Tohver from the North East Waste Forum predicts 2006 will be even bigger.

This is a way of promoting the reuse of goods and the saving of resources on one giant day, said Linda, and to spread the message that you dont have to buy everything new, that there are alternatives out there.

To be part of Secondhand Saturday simply grab an entry form from your local council or register online at www.northeastwasteforum.org.au. Registrations must be received by next Thursday, June 15, and anyone who enters can win a $50 voucher to use at a reuse store of their choice.

For more information contact Lismore City Council on 6625 0500 or Ballina Shire Council on 6686 4444.
