All Girls: a whos who of surfers

The draw for the Open Pro division of the upcoming Icon Australia All Girls Surf Showdown has become a whos who of the womens professional circuit. Amongst the high profile names on show will be Stephanie Gilmore, Laurina McGrath, Sheridan Shields, Pauline Mencser and Jenny Boggis. Overall, 11 surfers in the Open Pro are rated in the top 40 of the World Qualify Series, which puts them in the top 56 women surfers in the world. Apart from the big guns, talent scouts will be keeping an eye on up and coming young surfer Sally Fitzgibbon from Geroa (above), who impressed judges and spectators alike in the Open Pro semi finals last year. Sally is well primed for a showdown after a very successful tour to Brazil and a second place in the World Grommet Titles.

The Showdown gets underway on Saturday, June 10, at 7.30am, and runs through until Monday, June 12. The competition will be held wherever the surf is best between Lennox beach and Ballina North Wall.
