Menace in Venice

Shylock sees the money but isnt impressed with the deal. The modern setting to this Shakespearean play highlights its ongoing relevancy.

Justice and mercy. Racism and tolerance. Love and sorrow. Is this the Australia of today or Shakespeares world of centuries ago? Doesnt matter. The Merchant of Venice is a story that resonates through the ages to our present time.

This romantic comedy directed by Anna Volska contains an interesting cast of characters a handsome man in search of a wealthy wife, a melancholy rich merchant in love with the young man, three women dressed as men, an exotic Moroccan, a weird Spaniard and of course, the Jew, Shylock and a narrative brimming with intrigue, love, greed and deceit.

The Merchant of Venice hits the stage at Lismore City Hall next Friday, June 9, at 11am and 7pm.

Tickets are $36/30/16 from the Northern Rivers Ticket Centre on 6621 5600 or online at www.norpa.org.au.
