Musical brekkie

The Exchange Hotel beer garden in Kyogle is the venue for the monthly Richmond River Songwriters Breakfast, which sizzles on the first Saturday of each month from 10am-1pm. Next one is this Saturday, June 3. The breakfast is hosted by Ray Sorenson (pictured) who got the idea from Laurie Minson, who runs the monthly Tamworth Songwriters Night. It is an opportunity for the songwriters of the region to show the world (or Kyogle at least) what theyre working on.

As part of the breakfast theres also the Songwriters Comp. Each competitor can perform up to three original songs on the day. There are five permanent judges and a judge drawn from the audience. From each breakfast a finalist will go into the finals later in the year where there is cash ($1500) and a new Takamine guitar up for grabs.

Entry fee for the comp is $25. (Entries close at 12.30pm on the day. A gold coin donation at the door will get you into the brekkie and musical shenanigans.
