Miserable musical magic

The Ballina cast of the Ballina Players production of Les Miserables is looking trs miserable as they rehearse with convincing miserableness for this musical production based on Victor Hugos novel.

Under the guidance of directors Sue and Paul Belsham, the 55 strong cast of Les Miserables is working together to bring this popular musical to Ballina.

Les Miserables is the story of Jean Valjean (Mike Sheehan) who has served his sentence for stealing a loaf of bread. A bishop (Paul Farrell) receives him hospitably, but when Valjean steals his candlesticks and plate, the bishop states he gave them as a gift. Valjean then decides to help people and is so successful in his factory he is elected mayor. However his nemesis, Inspector Javert (Jack Claff) is appointed to the town and undermines everything. Then the plot really thickens with love, jealousy and song.

Opening night for Les Miserables is Friday, June 9, with the season closing on Saturday, July 1. Shows start at 7.30pm.
