25th Beef Week biggest and best ever
The fact that more sausages and rissoles than ever were eaten at the Casino Beef Week Breakfast is proof enough for Beef Week president Terry Serone that the crowds were bigger than ever at this years festival.
The 25th anniversary Beef Week attracted at least 15,000 people over the main three days, with accommodation in Casino completely booked out weeks ago.
Terry says rising insurance costs and the added expense of installing panelling to keep the crowds back from the cattle was causing headaches for the Beef Week committee, however, he played down reports that the festival wouldnt be held next year.
All our major sponsors have committed to next years event and if Richmond Valley Council can provide some financial support the show will definitely go on in 2007, Terry said. The mayor has said we cant afford to lose Beef Week as its the towns major tourist attraction and hes right it puts us on the map. Were meeting with Council in the next couple of weeks and were confident theyll do whatever they can to support us. Plus we desperately need more volunteers its just becoming too much work for our small committee. The community is right behind us, so we need to remain positive and work toward making next year bigger and brighter than ever.
