A Ballina man died on Monday and his two passengers were injured in a car accident on the Pacific Highway near Tintenbar around 8.30am. Albert Stephens, 75, was entering the highway from Ross Lane in his Hyundai sedan when he collided with a Toyota 4WD Hilux towing a horse float. Mr Stephens died at the scene. His 74-year-old wife was taken to Ballina Hospital and his 48-year-old daughter from Lennox Head was taken to Lismore Base Hospital, both in a serious condition. The driver of the 4WD and his horses were uninjured. Anyone who witnessed the accident and has not spoken to police is urged to contact the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit on 6681 8618.

Police released a statement on Wednesday advising that phone services in the Dunoon area could be out of service for up to five days following the malicious damage of telephone lines in the Missingham and Dorroughby Road areas of Dunoon. The damage is extensive and police are seeking information from members of the public. The damage occurred between 2pm on Monday and 12.50pm on Tuesday. Casino Police are seeking information following the theft of more than $90,000 worth of cattle from the Ellangowan area outside Casino. Sometime between March and 12pm on May 15 thieves stole 125 head of cattle from a property on Mothersoles Road, Ellangowan. The cattle consisted of 36 Braham/Yak cross heifers, one Charolais bull, one Black Angus bull, 58 cows of various breeds, 28 black carves 6-9 months old and one grey Yak calf five months old. Anyone with information regarding the theft should phone Casino Police on 6662 0099.
